Bittersweet Milestone

Earrings Collage
Grace has been asking for quite some time to get her ear pierced. It's one of those things that is a right of passage for a girl and also a day that says I am no longer a baby. For Mommy, it is a bittersweet day. Shawn and I decided that this is what we would do for her 5th birthday. At her party she opened a certificate that I made her.  It said, "This Certificate entitles you to getting your ears pierced at Sweet and Sassy and a date night with Mommy and Daddy."

Yesterday, my mom and dad watched Gauge and the 3 of us headed to Polaris. She was so excited that she could barely contain herself. After picked out the pair that she wanted (hot pink flowers with white centers) she hopped right up on the chair. I honestly have to say that I was more nervous than she was. I was fearful of her being in pain (even of the shortest duration). Despite my fears, she was acting like such a little pro. She didn't cry or even flinch. Just smiled from ear to ear when it done. The trip to Sweet and Sassy wasn't complete without a glitter star on her cheek and some glitter spray in her hair of course.

We followed up Sweet and Sassy with dinner together and a trip to the movies. We went to see Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. I have to say that I loved that movie. Totally cute and so clever. I enjoyed getting to spend some quality time with just my girl. You could tell that she was thriving on the undivided attention from me and Daddy. I told Shawn on the ride home that we really need to try and make that our goal for this year. To spend more alone/one on one/quality time with each of our children. It doesn't have to be a huge affair....just {TIME}!
