Bittersweet Milestone

Earrings Collage
Grace has been asking for quite some time to get her ear pierced. It's one of those things that is a right of passage for a girl and also a day that says I am no longer a baby. For Mommy, it is a bittersweet day. Shawn and I decided that this is what we would do for her 5th birthday. At her party she opened a certificate that I made her.  It said, "This Certificate entitles you to getting your ears pierced at Sweet and Sassy and a date night with Mommy and Daddy."

Yesterday, my mom and dad watched Gauge and the 3 of us headed to Polaris. She was so excited that she could barely contain herself. After picked out the pair that she wanted (hot pink flowers with white centers) she hopped right up on the chair. I honestly have to say that I was more nervous than she was. I was fearful of her being in pain (even of the shortest duration). Despite my fears, she was acting like such a little pro. She didn't cry or even flinch. Just smiled from ear to ear when it done. The trip to Sweet and Sassy wasn't complete without a glitter star on her cheek and some glitter spray in her hair of course.

We followed up Sweet and Sassy with dinner together and a trip to the movies. We went to see Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. I have to say that I loved that movie. Totally cute and so clever. I enjoyed getting to spend some quality time with just my girl. You could tell that she was thriving on the undivided attention from me and Daddy. I told Shawn on the ride home that we really need to try and make that our goal for this year. To spend more alone/one on one/quality time with each of our children. It doesn't have to be a huge affair....just {TIME}!

Friday Flashback

It's been quite a while since I've done a Friday Flashback. Over on Facebook everyone is going retro and changing their profile picture to one when they were a lot younger. My BFF from Jr/Sr High posted this picture of us and I just had to share.

Unfortunately over the years after High School we grew apart. About 6 months ago we met up at Panera for the first time in a very long time. We talked and talked like there had never been any time between us. We both lead busy lives that prevent us from seeing each other real regularly (even though we only live 1 hr. apart). That is why I love Facebook and my blog. We are able to keep up with each other's lives so that when we do get together's like we haven't missed a thing. I look forard to meeting up with her again and I challange you to do the same. Find an old friend on Facebook and reach out to them. Afterall, you probably shared some of the most important times in your life together. I don't think that you'll regret it!

Happy New Year!

We ushered in 2010 with some great friends. We have been having New Year's with this same group of friends for about 7 years now. A lot has changed since that first party when we were all newlyweds. Now we have 9 kids between us.

But somethings never change. When we get together there is always:
Lots of food......

Lots of Fun.....

And the inevitable "Man Test!" Every year our husbands collective decide on a "Man Test" to perform. This year it entailed taking off their shoes, socks, and shirts and running around the pond in the snow...which is a good quarter mile. LOL! {Hope you boys don't mind that I posted your pics}.

The only one to miss out on the New Year's glasses, beads, and horns was Gauge. He fell asleep (while sitting at the table eating a brownie) at 7:30pm and missed the ENTIRE party!

Grace was in 7th Heaven having a sleepover in her room with her Best Friends!

so that is how we spent our New Year's Eve. How did you celebrate?
