We had a Sweet & Sassy Kind of Day!

My day started off with Mommy and Muffins day in Pre-K. It began with a nice snack of muffins and orange juice. The kids even cleaned up the mess for the Mommies. Next we made a wonderful craft together. It was a picture frame with the story "If you give a Mom a muffin."

Here is Gracie showing off her frame.
Next the kids did our make up. I had make up on when I got there (mostly because there is no way I would leave the house with out it....pathetic, I know!). So, you can't really tell what make up Grace put on me. Not too bad though!
Next, we were crowned by our sweeties. We then all congregated in the chapel where each of us moms had to walk down the isle while the teacher read thing that our children said about us :-)
When school was over......that's where the real fun began for me and my sweet girl. We made a pit stop for some yummy Wendy's. My girl loves her some Frosty!!

Our final destination was the brand new store at Polaris called Sweet & Sassy. It is a salon and spa for little girls. It is all decked out in hot pink, purple, princess stuff, and Hannah Montana on video! What more could a little girl ask for?
We began our Spa Day by getting a nice relaxing pedicure.
Bright Red polish with stickers of course!
The biggest event of our Spa day was getting Gracie's hair cut for the very first time in 4 years!!!!! This was a big step for Mommy. Thinking that the hair that they were cutting off is the hair that she was literally born with! Call me weird, but that's really sad for me. It was time though. It had gotten to the point of looking unhealthy and getting more and more difficult to take care of. That combined with summer coming really soon....a shorter doo was in order. We are going to be donating her hair to Wigs For Kids. We discussed it before we went and she totally understood and was excited about the concept of giving her hair so a sick little girl who had lost her own.

Ah, a nice shampoo and scalp massage!
Looking good!
What a sweetheart! Mommy's girl is looking so grown up!
Now it's time to pick out our nail polish. She chose a nice pale pink with flowers.
Ah, it's so nice to be pampered!
Let those beautiful nails dry.
O.K. girl, now it's time to strut your stuff on the runway!
Work It, Work It!!
Simply Stunning!
Life gets so busy sometimes with work and taking care of your home and family. Sometimes we forget to take the time with our children on an individual basis to make them feel special. I had an absolute blast taking Grace and letting her get pampered. I'm not sure who smiled more....her having fun or Mommy watching her have fun?

Adventures in Couponing

This past week has been crazy around here.
  • Gauge got sick on Monday with a super high fever. We spent the majority of that night in the urgent care thinking he had an ear infection or something. Nope nothing! They didn't give him any kind of medicine....just has to suffer through it.
  • Tuesday, my awesome mom volunteered to watch the kids so I could go to work. Gauge wasn't allowed back at school until his fever had been gone for 24 hours. I also had a parent/teacher conference with Grace's teacher that night.
  • Wednesday Gauge went to school only to be sent home early because his fever came back. Shawn had Youth Group until 9:30 pm.
  • Thursday, I stayed home from work because Gauge still wasn't feeling well. That evening, Shawn had a Youth Group meeting until 10pm.
  • Friday, Shawn took off work to stay home with Gauge.
I say all this to simply say that we did not have time to do our weekly grocery and drug store run. So what did we do? We spent a portion of our date night at Meijer and Walgreens. Fun, huh? I have vowed that no matter what......I will never wait that late in the week to go again. There were about 5 items that were not in stock. Ask my hubby, I was right down mad about it! And, I don't have patience for rain checks.

But regardless of our lateness, we still raked in some pretty awesome savings! Check out my receipt from Meijer!

Yep, you read it correctly.
I SAVED $84.59 WITH MY COUPONS AND IN STORE SAVINGS!
It came to a total of $158.82 before my coupons........
We paid $74.23.

It would have been even less if we didn't buy non sale items such as:
toenail clippers for our dog ($11.99), Dog biscuits ($2.19), Handsoap Refill ($4.97), 2 pot roasts ($8.34),dusting spray ($2.97), Milk ($4.38), and OJ ($2.79). If we would have stuck to ONLY buying things we had a coupon for and not the above items....we would have only spent $36.71!!!

Share Your Gratitude Sunday

Life Down Our Lane:
Share your gratitude Sunday

I have so many things in my life to be grateful for...big and small. So, I thought, why not proclaim them to the world and have a place for others to share as well.

This week I am grateful being diligent and trying really hard with my couponing. It makes me feel great when I see how much money I am saving my family!

Now it's your turn. What are you grateful for this week?

Celebrate Spring With A Rainbow!

Welcome, to all my new visitors from Tip Junkie!
I hope you enjoy the rainbow cake that I made with my little girl. We had so much fun working on it and I hope that you do as well.
I feel honored to have had it listed on Tip Junkie!

If you get a moment, I would also love for you to visit my product review site called Peanut Butter and Pickle Reviews. We are a site dedicated to bringing our readers the best products for moms and their children. We host fabulous giveaways as well as provide great money saving coupon codes.

Today, Grace and I celebrated spring
by baking a fun and colorful rainbow cake together.

You will need:
Boxed Cake Mix, Cooking Oil, Eggs, Food Coloring, Icing (not shown) and
two round cake pans.
Mix up cake mix according to directions and divide into 6 bowls
Mix in food coloring to create the colors of the rainbow. I found that to create rich and vibrant colors you need to add quite a bit of food coloring
Now you will have a bowl in each of these colors: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue and Purple
In your first cake pan, one by one put in half of each color. In other words, dumb half the bowl of red, then on top of that put half the bowl of orange. On top of that half the bowl of yellow and so on. You may need to gently shake the pan to get the batter to evenly spread out.

For fun, do the second pan in reverse rainbow colors starting with purple first and ending with red.
Bake according to directions on the box.
Once cooled, place your first cake on a plate and cover the top with icing.
Place your second cake directly on top.

Cover the rest of your cake with the icing.
Serve and Enjoy :p
