Ever since we took the kids to see Thomas Live on Stage, Gauge has been enchanted with Choo Choo Trains. We were so excited when we found out that a little town about 1 hour south of Louisville had a train that we could ride. The Kentucky Railway Museum is located in New Haven, Kentucky.
We left the hotel in Louisville early and headed out on the road to New Haven. It was a gorgeous sunny day and the trip took us mostly through the back roads.....which I loved! We got to the train depot early just to be sure we would be able to get tickets. With time to spare, we threw down our beach towels under a shade tree and had a nice picnic lunch.

It was a warm day and we were relieved that our train car was air conditioned. It was also pretty cool that it had seats where you could face others. So, the four of us grabbed those se we could all sit together.
Say goodbye to the train depot
Gauge and I had so much fun peering out the window and trying to spot various things. Cows, barns, farms, fields, etc. Gauge and his wild imagination also spotted Bears, Monkeys, and Elephants :-)
Wouldn't you love to know what is going through his mind in this picture?

At the end of the line, they let you get off to get snacks and drinks at a near by gas station before they move the engine and pull you back to the station. Great time for a photo op with the Choo Choo.....that is until it blew it's whistle and Gauge screamed/cried/and litterally shook because it scared him so bad.
It was a wonderful day. The kids loved it and I loved it! So if you're traveling to Western Kentucky...be sure to make a pit stop in New Haven.
