Mammoth Cave & Bowling Green

Day 3 of our vacation was spent at Mammoth Cave. We scoped out the tours ahead of time and decided on which tour we wanted to go on. Once we got there, we learned that they don't allow you to take any kind of backpack carrier into the caves. This totally put a crimp in our plans. Gauge is only 1 and there was no way that we were going to take him on a 1-3 hour hike through a cave and have to carry him on our hip. After much grumbling and a bit of arguing (lol) we decided on the Discovery Tour. This is a self led tour that is only about 1/2 hour in length.

Since Gauge is still in diapers and you just never know when you'll need a diaper...I decided to take my Diaper Bag Wrangler with me. As we were walking down towards the cave entrance, we were stopped by one of the rangers. She informed us that no bags were allowed into the cave and it didn't matter what was in the bag. We were instructed to either take it back to our car or rent a locker inside the building.

So needless to say, we were not too happy at this point. Mammoth cave was turning out to not be such a baby friendly place.

Here is our view as we walk down to the cave entrance.

Mommy and Gauge at the entrance to the cave. As you approach the entrance to the cave, the temperature drops about 20 degrees. You can just feel the cool pouring out of the cave. It felt wonderful!

Grace getting ready to go in. Both of the kids had their own flashlights so they can "explore" better!

It was really dark down there. I had to just point my camera and hope that I was getting everyone in the picture.

Outside the caves we stopped at the Choo Choo so the kids could run around a little bit.

After the train, we enjoyed a nice picnic lunch and a short hike. We then drove back to Bowling Green; went to the mall, and ate supper at Fazoli's. After supper, we went back to the hotel and swam in the pool. Needless to say at the end of the day we crashed!
