Hitting the road to the Bluegrass State!

A big beach family vacation just was not in the budget this year. We still wanted to have a little vacation for our family. When we found out that Shawn's mom's side of the family (from Memphis) was wanting to do a little family reunion in Kentucky....we jumped on the opportunity to turn it into our big summer vacation. Since the reunion wasn't scheduled to start until Thursday...we had to find other things to do until then.

Monday morning bright and early we hit the road.

HELLO KENTUCKY!
Of course we had to stop at the welcome center for the proverbial picture in front of the sign :-)

We let the kids run around for a while and stretch their legs before heading back on the road to our first destination.

Hi Handsome!
Beautiful!
Back on the road.
I have to say that I have always loved the state of Kentucky. Both my mom and dad's side of the family are from South-Eastern Kentucky. We would visit them quite frequently when I was growing up. I love love love the mountains down there. I was a bit disappointed in the terrain of western Kentucky. But still beautiful nonetheless.
For the most part, the kids did really well in the car. Naps are always good!

Almost to our destination....
I purchased our hotel stays on Hotwire. This was the first time that I had used this site...but it came highly recommended by my friend Kristan who used it recently to stay at a hotel in Chicago. For our one night stay in Louisville, we stayed at the Hilton Crowne Plaza. It is a 3.5 star hotel and we got a great deal on the price. About 1/2 off!
It was beautiful on the outside....

and inside. Check out this lobby!

The room was beautiful and ohhhhhhh so comfortable!
Here is the view from our room. Beyond this was a view of the roller coasters of Six Flags Louisville

That is exactly where we spent the majority of our time in Louisville. Both of the kids were very apprehensive of the pool at first. We had purchased brand new arm floaties for both of them. By the end of the night, Grace was dog paddeling from one side of the pool to the other....without any help from Daddy.
Gauge's favoriate activity was jumping off the side of the pool into Mommy's arms. He would say "Ready Mom?" I would tell him that I'm ready and he would say "One.....Two......" and then he would jump before he even got to Three! Most definitly had to be on high alert with this little daredevil!

After a wonderful dinner, more swimming and a great night's sleep we were on to our next location.......
