Working Mama

I work outside the home 8 hours a day/ 5 days a week. When I get off work in the evenings, I go home and work another 6 hours taking care of my family and home. Being a mom who works outside the home full time isn't easy. I dream of the day when my laundry is caught up, I can make wholesome dinners every night for my family, and still squeeze in time to do a craft with my children.

There just simply doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day to accomplish all of this. Weekends tend to be the time that we try to catch up on all of those things....problem is that by time the weekend rolls around, I'm too exhausted. But, it needs to be done.
Thankfully I have an awesome hubby who doesn't mind helping cook, clean and take care of the children.

This purpose of this post is NOT:
To debate being a working mom vs. a stay at home mom
Nor is it a gripe session for me.

The purpose is to get inside the hearts and minds of other working moms. I want your thoughts and advice.
  • How do you manage working and being wife and mommy?
  • Do you have any secrets/tips on how to better manage your time?
  • Do you have time saving cleaning tips?
  • Do you have meal preparation tips?
  • Do you have time management tips?
I would love for you to comment on this post.

Ratatouille Strikes Again!

I have affectionately named our new house guest Ratatouille! Now if only he would keep up his end of the bargain and start cooking us up some wonderfully delectable French Cuisine. Nope....his taste run more along the lines of Iams, and Beneful, and Puppy Chow.
If you're not sure what I'm talking about, click HERE to get caught up on all the furball action.
Mr. Ratatouille began hiding his little dog food stash in our pantry. We discovered him and his little winter store of food and cleaned it out and set traps. Since then he has decided to store his dog food underneath our stove and wooden trash can.

I'm not exactly sure who is to blame here. It may be me and Shawn for repeatedly forgetting to put the dog dish up at night and when we go to work. Ratatouille takes full advantage of our memory lapses and has himself an all out smorgasbord!
Or it may very well be that this sweet little innocent face isn't so innocent after all.

Maybe Nolah and Ratatouille are in cahoots with one another. Maybe Nolah wants a playmate so bad that she has resorted to hiding Ratatouille in our kitchen and sneaking him supper at night.

No matter who is to blame, Shawn has decided to wage an all out war again Mr. Ratatouille. On our way home from church yesterday, we stopped at Dollar General and bought our ammunition.

Peanut Butter for the traps
4 of the good ole fashion spring loaded traps
Sticky Traps
And we already had 2 of these...which have proven to be unsuccessful.
He set all the traps yesterday hoping to catch the illusive little critter while we were sleeping. When his alarm went off for work this morning he ran out to check all of his traps. NO RATATOUILLE! It looks as if he had temporarily got stuck to the sticky trap but was able to wiggle himself free! Tonight when I get off work, I'm hoping we will have caught the little booger!

Where did my baby boy go?

Gauge's First Haircut
My sweet little boy has had the cutest blond curls!  I loved running my fingers through them when he was sleeping.  I love how they looked about an inch long until you pulled one straight and it grew to 2 inches long. So the decision to cut his hair has been a hard one for me.  It seems like once you do it, they look so grown up and no longer like your little baby!

I didn't want his first haircut experience to be traumatic and scary.  I wanted it to be as fun as a first haircut can get.  So tonight Shawn and I took him down to Cookie Cutters.

We purchased the Baby's First Haircut package.  So we got a certificate with his picture and a lock of his beautiful hair.
All situated in his car, and now ready to get wet down.

Still not really sure what's going on.
His hairstylist Dona was so sweet and patient with him.
To keep him occupied; they had toys, giant mirrors in front of them and even a video playing.
I'm one handsome man, huh mom?
Trimming around the ears and straightening up the back
All finished up.  Say hello to Mr.GQ!
He did really well for the most part...considering he didn't have a nap that today. He looks so handsome...and I'm so happy that he still has a little wave to his hair.

Look Who Is . . .

. . . using Big Boy Silverware!

Just ignore the fact that he is using his sister's pink spoon and bowl :-)
I guess it's time to get him some of his own!

Mommy loves you Big Man!!

There are some things that I will NEVER get use to!

When I was a child we lived in town....
- Where street lights come on at dusk
- The courthouse plays bells twice a day
- You can walk anywhere
- Sirens sound when there are tornado threats
- The wildest animals were the neighbors unruly cats and dogs

Now I live out in the country on 12 acres of property right beside woods where it's not uncommon to see...
- 8 deer dart across our field
- A coyote go traipsing by
- Buzzards circling overhead
- or a hawk landing on the fencepost

All of these things...are fine. But, there is one thing that I will never get use to!

Once of these guys in my house!
Oh sure he's cute in a Disney kinda way. He is way cuter out playing in the field where he belongs as apposed to storing up his food stash for the winter in the bottom of our pantry!

One of these furry little guys made his debut in our house on New Years Eve. I caught his movement out of the corner of my eye. I decided to get up and investigate. I opened the pantry door and discovered that he had a huge pile of dog food mounded up. He was fixin' to stay here for the winter I think. It was a good thing we have 3 strapping men in the house who could catch him right?

They cornered him in the pantry and were getting ready to smash him with their shoe when he darted between their legs and into the laundry room without ever breaking his stride! My husband spend the next 15 minutes trying to locate him in there....even moving the washer and dryer. No mouse! We don't know where he could have escaped to, but he did. Needless to say we now have traps to catch that sneaky little fella.
