Rough week

I am ready for our house to get back to normal. It all started last Wednesday....
Shawn and I volunteered to serve at our church's community meal on Wednesday night. His parents came over to watch the kids for us. When we got home I bathed the kids and put them to bed. I could hear Gauge on his baby monitor moaning. I didn't think too much about it at first because he does that sometimes to get himself to sleep. When he didn't stop, I thought well maybe he needs another bottle. I went in to feed him, but he didn't want it. So, I put him back to bed. He was really restless. At midnight he woke up screaming! Shawn went in to get him and he was burning up with a fever and puking. So amongst all of the crazy thunderstorms, Shawn ran out to Kroger and got him some pedialyte. In the morning we got him in to see the pediatrician and found out that he had a double ear infection! So they started him on Amoxicillin.

Two days later, we found out that a baby in Gauge's nursery had a confirmed case of whooping cough. So I once again got back on the phone with his pediatrician's office. As a precaution they told us to stop the Amoxicillin and called us in a prescription for Zithromax.

He seems to be feeling better and getting his appetite back. Throughout all of this he has become daddy's little buddy. It's all about da-da lately :)

Yesterday when we came home from church I felt really tired and sick to my stomach. I felt like a big lump....no energy whatsoever!!! So, I laid down in bed and took a couple hour nap. When I woke up I wasn't feeling too much better! So, I went to bed early last night and my wonderful hubby got the kids to bed, packed lunches, and made bottles! I'm still not feelling 100%...but hopefully the worst is behind us! I want us all to be HEALTHY for our long 4th of July weekend :)

Time: The Greatest Gift!

Have you ever had one of those moments where an emotion just totally sneaks up on you and washes over you like a tidal wave? That is exactly what happened to me on Friday night. My husband and my little girl were camping out with friends and my little guy was asleep for the night. I had the house to myself, so I thought I would just mess around on the computer. I had Picasa pulled up with Bring The Rain's playlist going in the background. It was playing David Crowder Band's "All that I can say." I came upon some pictures of my grandma with Gracie when she was a baby. That's when it hit me!

Here is a little bit of background. Grandma had been ill for quite a while with COPD. There was a time when we were not sure if she would even live to see Grace born. Grace was her 1st great-grandchild. When we brought Grace home from the hospital, we made sure to stop at grandma's house in Sunbury before we went home. Grandma was the first person to hold her outside of the hospital. Grandma passed away on February 12th, 2006. She lived to see Grace turn 1!

Friday night as I sat in front of my computer looking at pictures of Grandma holding Grace, the tears just ran and my heart ached. I miss her so much!!! She would have loved Gauge and loved Grace with all of her heart! I have nothing but great memories of my grandma as a child. Grandpa passed away when I was 2 and grandma threw herself into her grandchildren (all 8 of us equally). She was the grandma who would come to our kindergarten class dressed up as a witch for Halloween, take us on picnics at the park, have sleep overs, gives us all the change in her purse so we could walk down the street to the drive thru and get pop and candy bars. I miss the smell of her perfume, her long beautifully manicured fingernails, her wonderful sense of humor, her loving hugs and kisses, and how she called me "Baby Girl."

When I see my own mom with my kids, I see reflections of grandma. My mom takes Grace on treasure hunts, up town to throw pennies in the fountain, shopping at the mall, and has sleep overs with her. I can't even begin to express how much the little things meant to me as a child. I can't remember one present grandma ever bought me, but the greatest gift she gave to me was her time!!! I know that my children will cherish these moments with their grandmas and grandpas everyday of their lives just as I will cherish my memories forever!

There isn't a day that goes by that I don't miss grandma terribly. Her legacy will live on forever! I take comfort in knowing that I will see her again someday!

I'm a big boy now!

Gauge has recently decided that he is too big for his baby food. So, we have been trying out some new foods. His repertoire now includes:
Bananas
Turkey
Peas
Carrots
Cheese
Strawberries
Dill Pickles, which amazingly he LOVES!!!
and....anything else he can schmooze from mommy & daddy's plate :)

I'm trying to think of some other creative finger foods that:
* He can mash with his gums....since he only has front teeth
* Doesn't require too much prep time
* I can pack for lunch at school

I would love for all you moms, and dads out there to post a comment with suggestions :)
He has also mastered his Nubby sippy cup. He is just way too cute when he's drinking out of it. You can see him grinning while he drinks.....like he's saying "I am such a big boy!" LOL

Come out, come out, wherever you are!!

I love blogging! It has been such a good creative outlet for me. I've enjoyed adding new items to my sidebar, putting in cute backgrounds, and of course adorable pictures and stories about my children.
I have always looked at this as a journal of sorts. It gives me the opportunity to record events in my life that I normally wouldn't do....because I don't have a journal (pen and paper kind), or diary, and I definitely don't have the time or energy to scrapbook!
I also love meeting new people through my blog. I have met (although not in person LOL) some really awesome people such as
Kate. I see on my sidebar that I have people visit from Texas, California, Indiana, and even countries in Europe....but I don't know who you are. So....I'm calling for a De-Lurk here on "Shipman Family." *grin*

So.....come out, come out wherever you are. I'd love for ya to leave a comment every now and then. Even if just to say hi :)

Flashback Friday!

June 9, 2000
I thought that this flashback would be appropriate since OSU had their Spring Commencement last weekend. Here are some pictures of my graduation from Ohio State back in 2000. They had the ceremony on the Oval and it must have been 100 degrees outside that day!!

Here is a picture of me and my hubby (fiance at the time). We got married 6 months to the day later. We both look sooooo young! :)
Here is a picture of me amongst the crowd. Spring Commencement is OSU's largest.
Since there are so many graduates, many of us decorate our caps in hopes our family and friends will more easily be able to pick us out in the crowd. I created a block O out of glitter for mine.
Me and my parents. I am the first college graduate in my family :) I'm very proud of that!
Sorry for the poor quality pictures. I had to scan them. They were taken with one of those old fashioned cameras with film *wink*

I'm inspired!

Have I mentioned that I love Google Reader? LOL!
I love how it gives you suggestions of other blogs that you may enjoy reading. A couple days ago, one of the suggestions was a blog called Hair Today. It had some really awesome ideas of ways that I can do
Gracie's hair.

Here is a picture of the inspiration
This is how Gracie's hair turned out. Not too shabby for my first attempt. I think next time I will try wetting her hair down more.

The Inspiration
This is how Grace's turned out. I put quite a bit of water on it this time. I think I did pretty good. If only it could stand up to a full day at summer camp ;)
