Today is a sad day!

Today is a sad day!!! Gauge has reached 4 milestones recently.
  • He moved from his infant carrier to a big boy carseat on Easter.
  • He turned 8 months old on Saturday.
  • He's getting his 3rd tooth

  • And this morning when I came to drop him off for school....they informed me that he has offically moved over to the "big boy" side of the infant room.
The way his nursery works, is they have 2 sides to the room seperated by a baby gate. One side is for the "non-mobile" infants. They take their naps in the same room that they play, eat, etc. Then they have the side for "mobile" infants. On this side of the room (which is larger), they play and eat. They then have a room across the hall for their naps.
My little boy isn't so little anymore!

Easter on the Farm.

Every year for Easter, Shawn's whole family gathers at the "Throckmorton Family Farm" in Sparta, Ohio. His cousin Chris and his family live there now. They were gracious enough to have all 34 of us over for great food and an Easter egg hunt. The older kids go outside and hide the eggs for the smaller kids. Grace had a blast running around their yard gathering up her eggs in her basket. She came inside to show us her loot. She had an assortment of candy and stickers (which were her favorite).
Gauge slept through the entire thing. Next year, He will be out there running around with the best of them! :)

Friday Family Night

About a month ago, Shawn and I decided that we were going to start our own "Shipman Family Tradition." We thought that it would be fun to designate Friday nights as our Family Night. There are no hard and fast rules to define what exactly family night is....we have done pizza & a movie, game night (candyland & chutes & ladders), and one night Grace decided that all she wanted to do was play play-do. So, that's what we did.

I just recently came across a website called Families with Purpose. Their website says they are an "organization dedicated to helping busy parents create a meaningful family life for themselves and their children. Through our articles, products, and resources, we empower families everywhere to take control of their family lives and live their life with intention and purpose. And most importantly we advocate the little things in life, because they really do matter!"

That is exactly what our goal was in designating Friday's as Family Night. We know that our family is one of the most important things in the world to us and it's important to cherish the years we have with our kids. So......if you try to call us on a Friday night.......we're not going to answer because it's FAMILY NIGHT :)

Gauge swimming in the pool.

On Thursday night, Gauge finally got his turn in the swimming pool with daddy. They played in the pool together while Grace had her lesson. He was so stinkin' cute in his swim trunks.

Blizzard of 2008

Right now we are stuck in the blizzard of 2008!! Weather forecasters have predicted that by the end of this snow storm we will have approx. 14+ inches of snow. Our county is under a level 3 snow emergency. I have always told my mom that I would love to see a blizzard someday (I was just a mere bun in the oven during the blizzard of '78). I guess I'm getting my wish :)

I am now officially a soccer mom!

Yesterday, my husband drove up to the Akron area to look at a mini van that we found online. It is a 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan. We are so excited...it has all the options that we have been looking for: DVD Player (for mom and dad's sanity), Power windows, Power locks, Power sliding doors, etc. I got to drive it home from Grace's swim lesson last night and I have to say that it is by far the nicest vehicle I have ever owned! With that being said, I am now OFFICIALLY a soccer mom...even though both my kids are still too young to be in soccer :)

Baby Dedication

Baby Dedication is...
- An opportunity to thank God for the precious gift of my child.
- An opportunity to publicly declare our intentions to raise our child in a Christian home. Although we have already done that in our hearts, the public announcement makes us accountable to hundreds of people.
- A benchmark we can return to time and time again.
- A family dedication, where we as parents commit ourselves to abide by biblical principles and to raise our children according to God's standards. Not only are we dedicating our child to God, we are dedicating ourselves, as parents, to Christ and the church. We are committing ourselves to maintaining a Christian home, where Christ is honored and the Word of God is held in reverence. A child's first impression of God comes from us the parents, so we must strive to live Christlike lives at all times. Children sense our commitment to the Lord and are far more perceptive than we sometimes realize. For that reason, we need to be diligent in our own personal relationship with the Lord and the study of His Word. Abraham Lincoln said, "A child is a person who is going to carry on what you have started." Train up a child in the way he should go, but first be sure to go that way yourself.

Gauge will be dedicated on Sunday, March 16th during our 10:30 am service.
* All of our family and friends are welcome to attend!

What we did this weekend....

Hey everyone, this is Gauge again. I thought I would take a couple minutes and show off my newly learned skill. I can sit up now!!! This is so awesome, I watch everything that is going on around me. I especially love watching my doggy Nolah :) Sorry for the blurry picture...sometime I move too quick for mommy to catch me!!

On Sunday night Uncle Nate, Aunt Sam, Mamaw, and Papaw came out for Uncle Nate's 32nd birthday. To the left is a picture of my big sis helping mommy make Uncle Nate's birthday cake. I wish I could have licked the spatula too.
To the right you will see a link to my mommy's Relay for Life Walk. She walks in honor of my Uncle Nate. He is a cancer survivor. I love you Uncle Nate.
