Baby Sign Language

When Gracie was about 11 months and she was enrolled in our church's daycare program they began teaching her some basic sign language words. It was so awesome for her to be able to communicate her wants/needs with us and minimize her frustration. The daycare has been teaching Gauge these words and we have be reinforcing them at home. He knows: More, Drink (sign for milk), and All Done. I love when I feed him and he's able to tell me essentially, "I want a drink now" rather than crying or grunting at me until I'm able figure out what he needs. He's also able to communicate when he's had enough by signing "All Done." Here are a couple picture of him showing off his skills. It's hard to tell by a still photo how well he does at this.

  1. All my kids picked up on the sign for more and it's been sooooo helpful. My oldest used it even for when he wanted to go back to a place or do an activity again, not just for food.

  2. My kids learned sign language as toddlers, and still use it all these years later. I think it helped them some with congnitive and fine motor skill development. They're not fluent now, but still have a bit of it. BTW, I'm pretty new to the blogosphere--pleased to meet ya!! I'm running a giveaway on my blog, so please drop by!
