Monkey-See, Monkey-Do; Gauge's 1st Birthday Party!

I think the sign says it all ! ! !

I channeled my "Inner Martha Stewart" and decided to try my hand at making Gauge's cake. Overall I think I did a pretty good job! What do you think? Looks like a monkey to me :)

For our decorations, we chose yellow and brown. I hung banana leaves from our chandelier. We used bananas as weights to hold down the balloons. We also decorated with various other monkey things. Kerry's monkey is front and center on our eat ledge. I thought he made the perfect addition to our party.

This picture was taken before my Dad and Hubby went a little crazy with the crepe paper :)

Isn't his Monkey Shirt adorable?

Daddy helping Gauge open all of his "Big Boy" presents.

He got lots of Big Boy toys. Now he doesn't have to play with Gracie's Barbies and My Little Ponies *wink*

Singing Happy Birthday!

Man this is good stuff!!!!

Yeah this is fun!!!!

When it was all over, he looked more like a "Sea Monster" than my handsome little boy.

Come on Mom, you know you want to give me a great big hug and kiss.

Now that I'm all cleaned up, I'm ready to pose for my photo op with Grandma.

I think that overall Gauge's party went really well. The decorations looked cute, and I am really please how Mr. Monkey Cake turned out. Gauge had a wonderful time and despite anything else...that is what matters the most!

Happy 1st Birthday Gauge!

Happy 1st Birthday Baby Boy!
You were born on Sunday, July 29th, 2007
It was a beautiful sunny hot summer day here in Ohio. Mommy and daddy had Gracie spend the night with Mamaw and Papaw because we had to be at the hospital at 8 am for Mommy's scheduled induction. We waited and waited and waited some more for you to make your grand appearance. Gracie was getting so anxious that when she took a walk with Mamaw & Papaw to the lobby, she threw a penny in the fountain and wished that "Bubby would come now!"

It was well worth the wait!!!
At 3:59 pm you were born
Weighing in at 7 lb. 13 oz. and was 19 in. long

I can hardly believe that it has already been 1 year since you came into our lives. It feels like I have loved you my entire life. From the moment I first laid eyes on you, I fell madly in love with you....with your deliciously chubby cheeks, your sweet kissable lips, your sparkling blue eyes, and who could leave out your adorable curls!
Happy Birthday Sweetheart! We love you soooooo much!!!

Stay tuned for all the Monkey Party highlights. Believe me, you don't want to miss these pictures :)

We put a little weekend in our week!

Summer goes by way to quick! Shawn and I both work full time and our weekends are usually spent going to birthday parties, family get togethers, household chores etc. That doesn't leave us much time to do things as a family. We really hate going to the zoo and other places like that on the weekends because they are just so dag-on busy! So we came up with a fabulous idea. We decided to take a couple vacation days on Wednesdays. That's right, smack dab in the middle of the week.
On Wednesday, July 16th we took the day off work and headed to the zoo with the kids. Sadly this was our first trip to the zoo this summer. The children loved it and they both did so well. Grace enjoyed being the big sister and telling Bubby what all of the animals were. We took a picnic lunch and ate together under the shade. It was just an all around wonderful day. The kids were exhausted at the end. Gauge fell asleep before we were even out of the parking lot, and Gracie shortly there after. We had originally thought it would be nice to stop by the splash park in Powell that Shelly gave us directions to. But the kids were beat, so we'll save that adventure for another day.

On Wednesday, July 24th we took the day went to Mohican with my hubby's entire family. We had a great day despite it being overcast and tad cool at times. Gracie had so much fun wading in the river catching crawdads with her cousins. Her and daddy took a tube ride down the river with her uncles and cousins. we also took walks, bike rides, played on the playground, and ate ice cream. It was a wonderful time.

Packed up and ready to go.

If only we could take off every Wednesday :)

My sweet new bloggie friend Kerry posted a comment on my blog last week saying that she found something at Target and immediately thought of Gauge. She wanted my address so she could send it to me!

~ All the way from TEXAS ~

I just couldn't believe that someone I had never met before would be so kind, sweet, and thoughtful to do something like that. So I sent her my mailing address and about a week later, I received this in the mail!!!

Isn't he the cutest thing you have ever seen!!! She knew from reading my blog that a week from today, we will be having Gauge's 1st Birthday Party and his theme is Monkeys.
This is one of the many reasons that I love blogging so much. I get to meet such awesome women!! Who knows maybe some of us will get to meet each other in person some day! :)
Again, Thank you soooo much Kerry for your thoughtfulness!
